Extracurricular Activities

The following community partners went through a formal proposal process during the planning year 2025-26. These organizations were selected to provide formal and informal educational programming aligned to the school mission and vision during the inaugural year of the school. District 65 will also offer School Age Child Care (SACC) at Foster School to provide before and after school care for children. Additional extracurricular offerings will be designed to launch in year 2, shaped by students' interests and feedback from Foster School staff.

Program Description
Evanston Grows In April & October, Evanston Grows will run an after school program twice a week. Students will have the opportunity to grow, harvest, and cook vegetables from the local garden, while connecting to classroom STEM learning ideas.
Evanston Arts Center Evanston Arts Center will offer free visual arts enrichment for grades 3-5 students through a weekly after-school class. Students will engage in drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and mixed-media work with their art shared through school exhibits.
McGaw YMCA McGaw YMCA will run out-of-school time programming designed to extend learning, support families, and strengthen the community. Offerings include before and afterschool options at Foster School as well as programming on non-attendance days at McGaw’s main building.
Books & Breakfast Books & Breakfast is a before-school program offering a nutritious breakfast and homework assistance to Evanston students in need of additional support. B&B exists so that every student enters their classroom physically, emotionally, and academically prepared.
Young, Black, & Lit Young, Black & Lit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to increasing access to children’s books that center, reflect, and affirm Black children by providing free books to youth in pre-K through 8th grade. Young, Black, & Lit will partner with Foster School to provide literacy events, book giveaways, curricular connections, and teacher library consultations.
Family Focus: Pearls As part of the Family Focus Mosaic Legacy program, Pearls is a girls empowerment group for 3rd through 5th grade students that meets during lunchtime. The program supports students’ social-emotional development, creating a space where girls feel seen, supported, and confident in who they are.
Y.O.U. Y.O.U. is a youth development organization whose mission is to promote the agency, success, and well-being of young people and their families through identity-affirming relationships, expanded learning opportunities, and resources to meet emerging needs. Y.O.U. will provide after school programming at Foster School for youth.
